This is the FIRST TIME we’ve offered this gorgeous handbill in our auction and it’s oozing with history! During 1967 music festivals were beginning to appear all over California and this issue advertises the FIRST ANNUAL Sacramento Pop Festival with San Francisco’s Jefferson Airplane headlining. It was their creative highpoint just months after the release of “Surrealistic Pillow”. The Airplane were joined by other less known period acts at this event but here’s where it gets interesting: The band Hour Glass contained future Allman Brother’s founding members Duane & Gregg Allman! Also notable is the handbill “Introduces” the band Spirit which became jazz-rock icons featuring guitarist Randy California. This lovely gem is printed in the colorful "split-fountain" technique ranging from red to purple pink back to red. Our records show this original handbill has only been at auction a few times over the past ten years and is extremely scarce in ANY condition. This example is mint museum quality!
