We are very pleased to offer the collecting community the FIRST CGC graded example of this ulra rare and legendary original handbill to appear in our auction!

Make no mistake about it this is far more than just a concert handbill it is a genuine piece of American history! Why? Because the Tribute to Dr. Strange marks the very beginning of the San Francisco psychedelic era in 1965. This gathering organized by a collective of artists and bohemians known as “The Family Dog” was the spark that lit the flame of all future “happenings”.

This concert pre-dates the Grateful Dead and it predates the Acid Tests. The concert  features the Jefferson Airplane who came out of the folk movement to be the first San Francisco psychedelic band and the Charlatans fresh off their performance at the Red Dog Saloon in Nevada. It was the first true psychedelic dance concert held in San Francisco!

The handbill offered here is 100% Original with no restoration. While no one knows for sure how many handbills were originally produced we have heard multiple credible estimates that maybe 50 exist today in ANY condition. The originals were printed in 5 versions using 5 different colors of paper. This version (OHB-E) is on Goldenrod paper. All were pre-concert first printings.

It is no longer a secret that the advent of CGC grading has brought thousands of new collectors in to the marketplace that already collect and understand certified rare coins comic books and baseball cards. A portion of these new collectors are high powered uber-collectors that only wish to acquire the rarest and most important pieces. This is just the beginning of a trend that is sure to lead to exponential growth in the size of our market.

Despite this growth in demand the tiny available supply of TRUE MUSEUM PIECES like this will always remain the same. Since no one knows when the next CGC graded example of this handbill will cross the auction block we advise you to seize this opportunity that we are proudly making available to you now!

It's also important to note that historic handbills such as this are enjoying an explosion in collector demand due to the much needed integrity that CGC is bringing to this segment of the marketplace. If you are planning on bidding on this lot we highly suggest you read our blog dated 5/18/18.
