Wow! Our records indicate this scarce Grateful Dead issue has only been at auction ONCE previously. This is the FIRST TIME we’ve offered it in our auction! Grateful Dead concert posters are always amongst the most popular issues and this lot is no exception. This issue is sure to receive enthusiastic bidder attention. Artist Michael Priest designed three Dead posters for this venue in Austin Texas this being the first (the other two from 1981 and 1982 you have seen in our auctions previously). The one-eye Cyclops skull image was also used (without the Lone Ranger hat) on the reverse of the 1977 Terrapin Station album art released in July. Deadheads across the globe will agree that 1977 was an amazing era for the band and they played some of their best sounding concerts during that year. This show in Austin was hot and the Dead barreled straight out of the gate opening the first set with a smoking version of the Chuck Berry cover “Promised Land”. This original Manor Downs poster is extremely RARE and much harder to find (in ANY condition) than the other two Michael Priest designed Austin posters. It is unlikely we will see this gem again for a very long time if ever!
