This is the FIRST CGC graded example of this original poster ever offered in our auction! As things were winding down for the Family Dogs stint at the Avalon the budget for promotion was reduced and the promoters began using black and white images for the posters. These last dozen or so posters from the FD Avalon series relied mostly on photographic imagery. When it comes to quality condition and state of preservation the CGC 10.0 numerical grade says far more than words could ever explain. The quality of this poster is very special and must be seen in person to be fully appreciated. Of the many thousands of posters we have auctioned just a handful have earned the ultra rare and highly coveted "perfect 10" designation.
The experienced collectors we talk to are 100% convinced that posters that have somehow miraculously earned a 9.9 or 10.0 grade from CGC are exceedingly undervalued at current market levels. Their reasoning is simple but firmly grounded in reality. In every other certified collectibles marketplace it’s COMMONPLACE for the absolute “Best of the Best” to command premiums of 10x 20x or even 50x the next grade down. These types of premiums are universal and longstanding in regards to the values of rare coins comic books baseball cards paper money postage stamps etc. Because independent authentication and grading of concert posters is still in it’s early days premiums have not yet approached these types of levels. But make no mistake premiums ARE growing as collectors from other fields are flowing into the marketplace and snapping up what they consider to be MASSIVE bargains.
