Wow! Attention Grateful Dead fans! This is the first CGC graded example of this handbill to appear in our auction. An entire page in the Art of Rock is devoted to this series of spectacular posters and handbills on page 287.

In late January and early February of 1968 The Grateful Dead and Quicksilver Messenger Service set out on a tour of the Pacific Northwest. The Tour was dubbed the Quick and the Dead and six different posters showing the six different venues were issued. The posters designed by George Hunter of The Charlatans featured a unique distressed “Wild West” motif that is very popular with collectors.

The Art of Rock notes that the creators of this poster decided to take the "distressed" design of these ultra popular items one step further. A blowtorch was used to create ragged burned edges. This variant like the example we have here from the Crystal Ballroom is among the most prized of all to collectors. These are the FIRST we have EVER offered. CGC graded this lot 2.5 even though the burns were deliberate! At least the buyer gets the CGC authentication AND a wonderful air tight holder to store this museum piece in! Handbills are hot right now and this is one of the most sought after ever created ! Read our blog dated 5/18/18 to learn more.
