History has ordained Stanley Mouse as one of the most influential artists of the 1960's. This is a widely recognized indisputable fact. Offered here is a large highy detailed drawing from the earliest days of Mouse's career. This inventive antiwar and antidraft political statement portrays Uncle Sam as The Devil imploring viewers of the artwork to "sign up here".
This artwork was produced at a time when Mouse had moved from Virginia City Nevada to San Francisco. Mouse was already revered around the world as a legendary Hot Rod artist and would begin his concert poster work in 1966. The artwork here was created at a time and place that was ground zero for all that would come after.
Mouse in his own words states "The summer of 1965 was when the original "San Francisco" scene really happened. The media had not yet dubbed the counter culture "Hipppies". The Haight Ashbury was a sleepy neighborhood populated by just a few hundred long haired people primarily artists musicians and poets."
It should also be noted that in the world of art it's customary to place the highest values on the earliest output of legendary artists. This is true for Picasso Warhol and most other legends.
Years later Mouse's artistic achievements would be celebrated and displayed in major art museums such as The San Francisco Museum of Art The Detroit Institute of Art Boston Museum The Smithsonian Institute N.Y. Museum of Modern Art and many many others.
There is a singular word that is used very sparingly in the world of collectibles to describe THE most desirable of all rarities and that word is... PRICELESS. This word is ONLY used and applied to collectibles that are TRULY UNIQUE which literally means THERE IS NO PRICE. This amazing one of a kind piece of art comfortably fits this highly coveted category. As such any estimate to it's value can be deemed purely a guess.
The market and the market alone is capable of determining the true value of this one of kind piece of counter-culture history. No matter what this lot commands it will definitely transform whichever collection in which it resides to World Class!
estimate $4 000-$8 000.
Note: The winning bidder of this lot will also receive a copy of the book Freehand: The Art of Stanley Mouse.
