The posters that were created for the Vulcan Gas Company in Austin Texas in the 1960s are some of the most desirable and valuable in the entire genre of Psychedelic Concert posters. These scarce large sized posters were printed in far less quantity than those for the major San Francisco dance halls mostly in quantities of 500 or less. Very few of these amazing works of art remain in any condition.
Here we are offering an early Vulcan poster from the pen of Gilbert Shelton.
Shelton was the art director for the Vulcan along with Jim Franklin of Armadillo World Headquarters fame. Shelton went on to become one of most well known underground Comix artists of all time. He was one of the founders of Rip off Press and was best known for his hilarious and popular “Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers “ comix.

- Condition Details – There is some light edge wear on the right side a bottom left corner bump as well as light toning/stains around the edges. Additionally there are a couple miniscule areas of flaked off ink and some minor handling/creasing on the top quarter of the poster.
