“So I'm back to the Velvet Underground

Back to the floor that I love

To a room with some lace and paper flowers

Back to the gypsy that I was”

- Gypsy Fleetwood Mac

Velvet Underground was a cool bohemian little boutique in the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco. It was a favorite place to shop for all of the “It Girls”: Joplin Slick and Nicks all proudly wore their fashions.

Stevie Nicks tells a story of walking into the shop where she had a premonition of her future as a rockstar–she knew that there would be a time when she would be able to walk in and not look at the price tags. She knew she would make it and one day she would no longer be the poor girl dying to wear the breath-taking clothes on the racks. She would be wearing the Velvet Underground’s clothes and her vision came true! She immortalized her love for the store in the song ‘Gypsy.’
