Very few posters from the early years of the Allman brothers Band exist not to mention cardboard posters. This gem comes from a critical period in the Bands 45 years’ history. This poster was made just months after the release of the Allman’s incomparable live Album “At Fillmore East”. That recording which many believe to be one of the best live albums of all time would propel the band to legendary status. Just weeks after this performance the band’s founder virtuoso slide guitar legend Duane Allman would be killed in a motorcycle accident on October 29th.
The rarity and desirability of this poster cannot be overstated. Just a few examples are known to have survived in ANY condition. Posters picturing Duane are highly desirable and especially targeted by collectors. Posters picturing Duane that are also on cardboard from the Pacific Northwest AND are in great shape like this one are very special objects of desire that come around once or twice a decade!
We know of only one other example of this poster having been offered at public auction. That piece in similiar condition realized $3291 4 1/2 years ago on 9/5/13. That might as well have been a lifetime ago as the number of collectors of vintage concert posters has grown exponentially in the past 5 years!
