This poster commonly known by collectors as the “Acid Drop” or Acid Dropper” is one of the most popular Psychedelic poster images of all time! Longtime poster collectors know that this is one of the most difficult Grateful Dead posters to find in any state of condition. This cosmic trippy imagery was created by Steve Catron for a series of concerts by the Grateful Dead and Chuck Berry at the Carousel Ballroom on March 29 -31 1968. The poster has been held all theses years by the original owner who attended the show. This rare piece is featured in the Art of Rock plate# 2.163
The poster measures 16”x 22 1/8”. And has been worked on by a qualified paper conservator who used state of the art techniques and materials to stabilize this rare poster. The poster was previously framed and matted and a small bit material was lost on the back of the poster resulting from the removal of the mat board. Thus material added to reinforce the weakened areas that were left after the mat was removed. Additionally there were 3 sets of tiny staple holes and a few minor edge tears that were mended. There was some handling and minor creases that have been flatten out as well. All added material is on the back of the piece only. The materials used were mulberry paper and wheat starch paste that we are told are neutral and reversible. (A copy of the full conservation report is available by request) The grade of this poster is a reflection of how the poster would have been graded before the work was done. The poster displays beautifully with bright un-faded colors .
This poster has a reserve. The bids will appear in “RED “ until the Reserve is met.
