This is the original handbill for the 1967 Gathering of the Tribes, created by artist Ami Magill and perhaps the most difficult-to-find variant of all the different Tribes handbills. Magill also designed material for events at Longshoreman's Hall and the 1965 Tribute to Doctor Strange. We are excited to offer the collecting community this rare Magill original version.
The Human Be-In kicked off the Summer of Love. It was originally conceived as an opportunity for the San Francisco Bohemians and Berkeley radicals to join forces in celebration of their respective counterculture ideals. The stage was taken by the major San Francisco bands of the day as well as Psychedelic advocates, political radicals, beat writers, and spiritualists.
