This 1968 Grateful Dead Jefferson Airplane Carousel Ballroom Poster (AOR-2.172) stands out as one of the top Grateful Dead Concert Posters. Alton Kelley was tasked with designing a poster that would stick out like a "Sore Thumb". The Artist took the assignment literally.

This poster captures a brief chapter in Psychedelic Rock history. The Carousel Ballroom was a large-capacity, Swing-era dance hall on Market Street in San Francisco that the bands leased for a few months in 1968. The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger Service, and Big Brother & the Holding Company were involved. The venture lasted six months before Bill Graham's competitive tenacity led the venue to close. Within months, Bill Graham acquired the lease and the room became THE Fillmore West.

Condition: Tack hole in each corner, 3/8 inch stain in the wrist, creases.
