The English posters designed by Michael English and Nigel Waymouth were printed under the monikers Hapshash and the Colored Coat. They are scarce relics from the London Underground of the late 1960s and are stunning works of art in their own right. The posters were colorful, meticulously illustrated screen prints. Hapshash posters promoted shows at London’s Savile Theatre and the UFO (Unlimited Freak Out) Club, and feature breakout performances by Pink Floyd, the Who, and Jimi Hendrix.
This extremely rare original poster was created for Traffic, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, The Long John Baldry Show, and Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac appearing at the Saville Theatre in London in September 1967. Notably, Traffic's date was the band's FIRST UK appearance! The Birmingham, England-based group had just formed earlier that year. They wouldn't release their debut album, Mr. Fantasy, for a few more months.
This piece features artwork by Hapshash and the Coloured Coat, whose creations are arguably among the most attractive concert posters ever made. This is issue OAS2 from the legendary Osiris Visions Series. These LARGE silk-screened posters were produced in the UK by the Osiris Visions Printing Company. They were printed on thin paper, and because of their size, the posters are easily damaged. Hapshash posters have been widely pirated, and we've only offered a handful of originals over the years, making this an extremely special lot!
