Jimi Hendrix posters are among the most sought-after and valuable of any 1960s concert posters. The performer's enduring appeal to collectors comes from a combination of his musical innovation and his flamboyant style.
This 1968 Jimi Hendrix poster for a 1968 show at Sacramento State College is a truly scarce item. The handbill which is pictured in The Art of Rock, plate #3.16 occasionally comes up for auction, but the original poster creates a hole in many Hendrix poster collections.
The 1968 Jimi Hendrix tour inspired some of the best posters ever printed. The hit list includes John Van Hamersveld's Shrine Auditorium, David Byrd’s Fillmore East, and of course Rick Griffin’s BG-105 and BG-140. These posters are obtainable at the right price, but then there are the outliers that demand huge results at auction, like the painfully scarce Merriweather Post Pavilion black light cardboard poster by Dail Beeghly, the HIC Arena-Honolulu, and European posters like this Monster Konzert that just closed at ArtofRock.com.
For a detailed history of the concert, check out the recollection by Matt Taylor Here.
Condition: Restoration includes repaired edges.
