This flyer was created to get the word out about a wake for Chocolate George Hendricks. It was quickly printed on loose-leaf paper with punch holes and has since become one of the most cherished Grateful Dead/Hells Angels items of all. Chocolate George was a beloved figure in the Haight and a highly regarded member of the Hells Angels. He was killed in an accident on Haight Street on August 24th, and the community showed up in swarms to honor the fallen angel. The Dead and Big Brother performed at the wake.
The friendship between Hell’s Angels and the Grateful Dead goes back to the band's earliest days and the entertainment for Kesey. The well-known Motorcycle club staged several events over the years that featured the Dead and Jerry Garcia. The posters and handbills from these events are among the most desirable and valuable Grateful Dead collectibles. This completely original, double-sided flyer is an essential item for collectors.
