1975 Jerry Garcia Merl Saunders El Camino Park Palo Alto Poster Extra Fine 67

This rare original poster was designed by artist Jake Pierre to announce Jerry Garcia & Merl Saunders, Kingfish (featuring Bob Weir), Dave Torbet, and The Rowans appearing at El Camino Park in Palo Alto on June 8th 1975. Since the early 70s, Garcia and keyboardist Merl Saunders were performing locally very often together during the Grateful Dead's off-time, and formed the legendary "Legion of Mary", which was one of the earliest incarnations of the Jerry Garcia Band. The core members of the group Jerry Garcia, Merl Saunders and John Kahn had been performing together since 1971. Newer members included Martin Fierro on saxophone and flute, and Elvis Presley drummer Ron Tutt (this show in Palo Alto featured Merl's cousin Eddie Moore on drums). The group played together until the late summer of 1975 after which the Jerry Garcia Band became Garcia’s main performing group when the Grateful Dead were off the road. This is the first example of this scarce poster to ever appear in our auction!
