1973 Grateful Dead McGaw Hall Northwestern University Evanston Poster Near Mint 89

This rare Grateful Dead original poster promoted the band's appearance at McGaw Hall at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, on November 1st, 1973. The show was presented by Amazingrace and was the university's homecoming event for that year. This poster was printed on versions on different colored paper stock, all before the concert, this example being the rare blue variant.

While the Grateful Dead continued to push themselves musically during the 1970s, the same cannot be said for the Dead's poster art during the decade. The explosion of creative imagery from the '60s waned as band promotion shifted to more cost-effective methods like FM radio and newspaper advertising. Consequently, well-illustrated posters were rarely created. However, this one features a nice take on the band's classic skull motif, and we have never offered another example in our auction before!
