This original poster advertised the 1st Annual Marijuana Harvest Festival held at Brittingham Park in Madison, Wisconsin, in September 1971. This event marked the beginning of what is now the Great Midwest Marijuana Harvest Festival, the longest-running cannabis rights festival in the United States. It was organized by Ben Masel, a member of the Youth International Party (Yippies), until his death in 2011. The Yippies were formed in the 1960s by a group of activists, including Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, Paul Krassner, and others, who sought to blend the countercultural ethos of the hippie movement with radical politics and anti-authoritarianism. This is a rare and unique countercultural relic!
