Berkeley’s Jabberwock was the home for many early Country Joe and the Fish shows. Many of the band's early performances were at this small club on Telegraph Avenue. This poster by artist Tom Weller promotes the Halloween run at the venue in 1966.

The Jabberwock started as a successful jazz club in the early sixties until it was purchased by Bill "Jolly Blue" Ehlert in 1965. Ehlert converted much of the venue’s performances to a more psychedelic sound. In 1966, Ehlert hired Jesse Cahn, who had been a guest drummer for the Chambers Brothers, to co-manage the Jabberwock while he ran the Matrix in San Francisco.
