We are pleased to offer this rare handbill from 1971 for "Blues Bag One," a charity event for disadvantaged youth held at Philadelphia Civic Center. The Allman Brothers headlined this once-in-a-lifetime blues jam. Promoter William Kelley conceived of Blues Bag and, with the counsel of Duane Allman, booked a blues-heavy lineup of guitar virtuosos. The lineup included Luther Allison and Buddy Guy, featuring legendary bluesman Mississippi Fred McDowell and 22-year-old Bonnie Raitt.
In the summer of 1971, The Allman Brothers were on the cusp of critical and commercial success, having released the incomparable At Fillmore East album just a month earlier. However, as fate would have it, the band tragically lost its musical and spiritual leader within three months of this show. Duane Allman took his final ride on October 29, 1971, at 24.
There is very little detail left from the show other than these clippings
