This is the FIRST APPEARANCE of this ultra scarce Globe Cardboard Poster in our auction! Very few posters from the early years of the Allman Brothers Band exist, not to mention the Duane Allman era. The poster advertises The Allman Brothers Band scheduled to appear at the American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina on Wednesday August 19th 1970. Also on the bill were Chicago, Mountain, Freedom, Peace Core and more. The event was advertised as The Charlotte Rock Festival. Records show that the ABB did not perform and the event may have been canceled.
From its opening in 1929 until its closure in 2010, Globe Poster Company in Baltimore was the go-to place for musicians circuses drag races and concert producers for bold eye-catching letterpress advertising. It's no secret that Globe cardboard concert posters are the gold standard amongst advanced collectors. They rarely show up at public auction and when they do they are always met with enthusiastic bidding.
Very little material from the early years of the Allman brothers still exists today in ANY condition! The likelihood of another example of this issue surfacing again anytime soon - if ever - is extremely slim. It's no secret among collectors that Allman Brothers concert posters are one of the hottest segment of the marketplace. In recent years, we have been setting record prices with Allman's material on a consistent basis. Given the rarity and desirability of this Duane Allman relic, we expect this piece to be no different!
