The San Francisco Oracle was an underground newspaper that published 12 issues between September 1966 and February 1968. It was distributed in the Haight Ashbury area and was an early member of the UPS (Underground Press Syndicate). It combined poetry, spirituality, and multicultural interests with psychedelic design reflecting on the counter-cultural community. Many issues had ads for music and records. The Oracle is the most famous and collectible of any underground paper. Contributors included many significant San Francisco area artists, including the late great Rick Griffin. It also featured such beat writers as Allen Ginsberg, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, and Michael McClure.
