This handbill announced Maxine Brown and The Clifford Jordan Quintet appearing at the one and only Birdland on November 16th, 1964. Birdland was a famous jazz club on the legendary 52nd Street, the Jazz epicenter of New York City. The club opened in 1949 and regularly hosted many of the greatest names in jazz, including Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, and Count Basie, and was referred to as “both a cultural vantage point and a barometer of trends where all the big names in jazz performed” by Allan Morrison, editor of Ebony Magazine. The club's original tenure came to an end in 1965, but it reopened in a new location in 1986 and remains active to this day.
