This RARE cardboard issue prmoted Stan Kenton and His Orchestra playing at The Macumba Club in San Francisco for a lengthy residence in November 1956. These famous shows were recorded and released as a live album in 1991. Kenton came to prominence in the 1940s and carved out a distinctive space in the jazz world with what he called "progressive jazz." His career spanned nearly 50 years.
This poster was produced by the Tilghman Press company out of Oakland, CA. Their promotional material had a consistent and familiar appearance to them similar to classic boxing-style concert items from the early days of rock n roll. Very few original Tilghman Press posters exist today because they were printed in extremely small quantities!
