This rare vintage program was produced for Stan Kenton's Festival of Modern Jazz, a touring festival in 1953. Kenton came to prominence in the 1940s and carved out a distinctive space in the jazz world with what he called "progressive jazz." His career spanned nearly 50 years. This festival included jazz greats Dizzy Gillespie, June Christy, and notably, Charlie Parker! Material featuring the great Charlie Parker from this early era in history seldom surfaces for collectors! Miles Davis once said, "You can tell the history of jazz in four words: Louis Armstrong, Charlie Parker".
