The legendary Billie Holiday's contributions to jazz cannot be overstated, as she was undoubtedly one of the most emotionally powerful and influential jazz vocalists of all time. This program is from one of her most legendary shows, her first headlining appearance at Carnegie Hall in New York on March 27th, 1948. Holiday had just been released from prison following a drug possession conviction eleven days prior to the show, and was unsure about how she would be received by a crowd afterwards. However, the show completely sold out, selling an unprecedented 2,700 tickets in advance! This was especially interesting as she did not have a current hit record at that time, and hadn't had a record chart since 1945. Her set consisted of 32 songs. This is a historic item that could very well never appear in our auction again... bid accordingly!
Legendary concert, this was her first headlining show at Carnegie Hall and it sold out.
