This RARE program was produced for the legendary Ella Fitzgerald, appearing at The Savoy in Harlem, New York on August 20th, 1939. Ella Fitzgerald made her singing debut at the Apollo Theater when she was 17 years old on November 21, 1934. Fitzgerald's performances pulled in a weekly audience at the Apollo, and she won the opportunity to compete in one of the earliest of its "Amateur Nights". She soon became known as the First Lady of Song and later the Queen of Jazz. Recordings from this legendary performance appear on the "Live at the Savoy" album release. We've never seen another example of this program!
