This lot features the underground comic "Austintatious", a one-shot underground comic produced in Austin, Texas, in 1973. Most of it was written and illustrated in Austin by local Texans Rick Turner, Kerry Fitzgerald (Kerry Awn), and a few of their friends. Rick Turner was part of the early Austin poster artist group scene along with Kerry Awn, Guy Juke, Micael Priest, and others, revolving around several Texas venues during the 1970s. Turner and Fitzgerald originally headed to San Francisco in the summer of 1972 to proposition legendary underground publisher Rip Off Press to print the comic. One of the Rip Off Press founders was Jack Jackson, AKA Jaxon, who had served as art director for The Family Dog in the 1960s and was originally from Texas himself. He turned down "Austintatious" and encouraged the creators to take it back to Texas for printing, which they did. The comic was only printed once!
