This original 1954 handbill from the legendary Open Door Jazz Club in New York features Top jazz icon, the one and only Charlie Parker, headlining this concert held on May 23rd. Material featuring the great Charlie Parker from this early era in history seldom surfaces for collectors! Another important aspect in this piece is the concert took place less than a year before Charlie Parker's untimely passing.

Although he performed many brilliant concerts and studio recordings during his later years, Parker was riddled with mental health problems and heroin addiction. Two months before this show his 3-year-old daughter Pree died suddenly and unexpectedly. He attempted suicide twice afterward which landed him in mental hospitals. Nevertheless, his impact on modern music was clearly undeniable. Miles Davis once said, "You can tell the history of jazz in four words: Louis Armstrong Charlie Parker".
