This poster was for a Hells Angels event at the historic Carousel Ballroom with hosts Big Brother and the Holding Company. Rejoice and The Youngbloods supported! The Hells Angels Motorcycle Club played a pivotal role in the 1960s counterculture. Big Brother and other Bay Area bands, such as the Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane, would perform at some of their events during this era. They were also known for throwing exciting parties. This one was held at the Carousel in the spring of 1968. Janis Joplin was still riding strong with Big Brother during this time, and the band was at its peak, preparing their second album, Cheap Thrills, to be released in just a few months.
Although the Carousel Ballroom wasn't around for long, it inspired an INCREDIBLE SERIES of posters and handbills that are amongst the best of the entire genre of 1960s psychedelic concert images. This is one of the most beloved and most difficult to locate for collectors!
