This very large and amazingly beautiful poster features the world-class artistry of legendary counterculture artist Gilbert Shelton and his use of Winnie the Pooh. Just 500 posters were originally produced.
Shelton was the art director of the Vulcan Gas Company along with Jim Franklin of Armadillo World Headquarters fame. Shelton went on to become one of the most well-known underground Comix artists of all time. He was one of the founders of “Rip Off Press” and was best known for his hilarious and popular “Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers” comix.
The 13th Floor Elevators (Roky Erickson) were highly influential in the development of the San Francisco sound. Their legacy continues today in influencing modern-day psych and indie music genres. This poster promotes the very FIRST time this legendary band performed at the venue’s permanent location. This run of two shows at the Vulcan drew very large crowds and established the venue as “the place to go” in Austin for live music during late 1967.
Condition Details: Tape on reverse, tackholes, crease repaired by tape on back, tape stains.
