The Monterey Pop Festival was one of the most pivotal musical events in history. The festival welcomed in the Summer of Love and featured the first U.S. performances by both Jimi Hendrix and The Who!
Two versions of the original poster were printed. The first and larger-sized printing was the promotional poster that was created to advertise the show! The smaller print was sold at the festival as commercial merchandise. The example that we are offering in this auction is the larger advertising poster (OP-1). This poster is much scarcer than the smaller version. Both were printed on foil-surfaced cardboard. The foil shows every flaw so undamaged copies are especially difficult to find. It's one of the most beautiful important and sought-after posters of the entire era and is prominently displayed in The Art of Rock plate 3.5.
