This is only the 4th example of this very rare Vulcan Gas Company poster (and the highest quality-condition CGC graded example) to ever appear in our auction!

Here we are offering an early, original vintage Vulcan poster from the pen of Gilbert Shelton. The VG-20 features Austin's own Shiva's Headband, along with Bubble Puppy, Angela Lewis & the Fabulous Rockets, and Wild Chickens in 1968. The posters that were created for the Vulcan Gas Company in the 1960's are some of the most desirable and valuable in the entire genre of Psychedelic Concert posters. These scarce, large sized posters were printed in far less quantity than those for the major San Francisco dance halls - mostly in quantities of 500 or less. Very few of these large and fragile posters remain in ANY condition.

Gilbert Shelton was the art director for the Vulcan along with Jim Franklin of Armadillo World Headquarters fame. Shelton went on to become one of the most well known underground Comix artists of all time. He was one of the founders of Rip off Press and was best known for his hilarious and popular "Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers" comix. This poster entitled "The Matrix" is a vibrating fluorescent and stunning piece of psychedelic art. It needs to be viewed under black-light to be truly appreciated.
