The pioneering American blues-rock band, The Butterfield Blues Band, was formed in 1963 by harmonica player and singer Paul Butterfield in Chicago. They were one of the first groups to bring authentic electric blues to a rock audience, blending Chicago blues with jazz and rock influences. Their 1965 self-titled debut album was groundbreaking, featuring Mike Bloomfield and Elvin Bishop on guitar. The band's sound evolved over time, bringing in horn sections and moving toward a more soulful, jazz-oriented blues style. Despite lineup changes, they remained a major force in blues-rock through the late '60s and early '70s.

This cardboard poster promoted the band's appearance at Millhiser Gym at the University of Richmond on November 14th, 1970 for the school's homecoming concert. The top of the poster reads "From the Woodstock Rock Festival", referring to the Butterfield Blues Band's appearance at the legendary festival the year prior. They had played a seven-song set. Original cardboard posters are super popular and remain one of the most highly sought-after types of concert memorabilia ever known. This rare issue has never appeared in our auction until now!
