This original handbill has been professionally restored to offer the appearance and eye appeal of a clean copy! Restoration Includes: color touch, a few repair patches. It also appears the handbill may have been pasted to something and then removed, causing some discoloration.
The Tribute to Dr. Strange concert marks the very beginning of the San Francisco psychedelic era in 1965. This gathering organized by a collective of artists and bohemians known as "The Family Dog" was the spark that lit the flame of all future happenings. This concert pre-dates the Grateful Dead and it predates the Acid Tests. The show featured the Jefferson Airplane - who came out of the folk movement to be the first San Francisco psychedelic band - and the Charlatans fresh off their performance at the Red Dog Saloon in Nevada. It was the first true psychedelic dance concert held in San Francisco!
While no one knows for sure how many of these handbills were originally produced, we have heard multiple credible estimates that maybe 50 exist today in ANY condition. The originals handbills were printed in 5 versions using 5 different colors of paper. Some were hand-colored by members of the Family Dog. All 5 versions were pre-concert first printings.
