This beautiful poster called Stone Garden was designed by artist Wilfred Satty. Satty was probably the one East Totem West poster artist who became the most famous as a well-known 1960s designer, publishing his own work years later and illustrating the works of Edgar Allen Poe and Bram Stroker's Dracula.
During 1967 and 1968, founder Joseph McHugh and a handful of talented folks, including Satty, formed the short-lived East Totem West, an inventive poster and notecard company in the SF Bay area.
The primary purpose of East Totem West was to create art, for art's sake. These were images containing bright colors and trippy spiritual mandalas, produced simply for the optical enjoyment of the viewer. The psychedelic movement of the era fueled the massive popularity of these beautiful headshop posters, and they still hold a place in the hearts of collectors today.
