This rare artifact comes from the first-ever tour that the great Jerry Garcia ever played on outside of the Grateful Dead. Regarding scarcity, this poster ranks with any we have ever auctioned. HOOTEROLL? was an early Garcia side project with keyboardist Howard Wales. The project’s recording was released in 1971 before any of the Dead's solo projects. Its jazz-rock fusion spawned a brief tour in January of 1972 that has barely escaped obscurity. This poster was produced for the show in January 1972 in frigid Syracuse, New York. This date in the Grateful Dead timeline falls 2 days after Warner Brothers released the first Garcia solo album. The shortlived ensemble included Jerry Garcia on guitar, Howard Wales on keyboards, Jerry Love on drums, Jimmy Vincent on guitar, and Roger Troy (aka Jellyroll) on bass and vocals. This is the FIRST EVER example of this poster we have seen, and the only example we know to exist.
This 3-color screen-printed original poster exhibits the following flaws: minor paper loss on the right and left edges, a 3” tear on the bottom edge that is partially taped from behind, tape stains in all four corners, and creases. It is conservatively graded Extra Fine “63” by Psychedelic Art Exchange.
Condition Details: Tape stains, creases, minor paper loss, tiny pinholes.
