This poster is signed and numbered 142/350 in silver ink by the late artist Alton Kelley.
Chet Helms is the patron Saint of Haight Ashbury. He was one of the pioneers of the San Francisco psychedelic scene and was instrumental in creating the 1960s counterculture. As the guiding force behind the Family Dog he helped create some of the finest poster art of the era. According to all accounts he was a very fine gentleman and was well loved by musicians and audiences alike.
Chet’s death was mourned by all. There was a well attended tribute held at Maritime Hall. This room was a San Francisco venue that the resurrected Family Dog staged shows at for a brief period in the ‘90s.
This large silkscreen print needs to be viewed in person to truly appreciated.
