Several of the lots in this auction, including this First Print AOR-2.336, were consigned by a Bindweed Press employee who printed the poster. Bindweed was the source for many of the famous early San Francisco Dance Hall Posters. This copy of AOR-2.336 was taken straight from the press and has remained in the original owner's possession for 59 years.
This RARE original first printing poster designed by Stanley Mouse & Alton Kelley is one of the more difficult to locate collectibles from 1966. It was created to promote Jefferson Airplane (with Signe Anderson), Big Brother & the Holding Company (with Janis Joplin) and The Great Society (with Grace Slick) appearing at Losers South in San Jose. The run of shows in early August 1966 were printed incorrectly in the top margins as August 2nd through the 7th. The concerts were actually August 2nd through the 5th (the dates were corrected along with an overprint of "DANCE" in purple at the top center on other printings of this issue - all before the events occurred). This is the first example of this rare original poster we have ever offered in our auction!
Condition Details: Pinholes, heavy creases across top edge, tape pulls and residue on reverse.
