Several of the lots in this auction, including this First Print FD-17, were consigned by a Bindweed Press employee who printed the poster. Bindweed was the source for many of the famous early San Francisco Dance Hall Posters. This copy of FD-17 was taken straight from the press and has remained in the original owner's possession for 59 years. Early Bindweed posters were printed on slightly thick textured vellum paper.

This incredible, early Avalon Ballroom poster was created by Alton Kelley and Stanley Mouse, two of the most legendary artists of the era. The FD-17 is universally recognized as one of the most stunning posters in the entire Family Dog series. Just 1,000 specimens were created. It's highly sought after and always competitively fought over whenever it appears at a public auction.

The Original Pre-Concert FD-17s were printed with runs of Gold and Silver ink. This Original Version 2 shown here was printed in silver ink. It's less common and much harder to find than the gold ink version.

Condition: Pinholes, creases, edge tears, toning.
