1973 The Velvet Underground Max's Kansas City Poster with Signed COA Excellent 73

This poster was produced for The Velvet Underground's engagements at Max's Kansas City in New York City in the summer of 1970. These were the Velvet's first New York City shows in three years. Though just ten dates are listed on this poster, the band actually held a 9-week-long engagement at the venue from June 24 to August 28. The August 23rd show would be released as a live album, "Live at Max's Kansas City", two years later.

Along with CBGBs, Max's Kansas City was one of the premier venues and birthplaces of the New York punk scene. It operated from 1965 until 1981, initially becoming a favorite spot for artists to gather, including Robert Rauschenberg and Andy Warhol and his circle. The great Patti Smith and Robert Mapplethorpe visited nightly for some time. The emerging glam rocks scene also had a special place at Max's, and artists such as David Bowie, the New York Dolls, and Alice Cooper appeared there. Countless musical legends spanning multiple genres took the stage at the club over the years including Big Star, Iggy & The Stooges, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, Gram Parsons, and Emmylou Harris.

During this time, The Velvet Underground was recording their fourth studio album, "Loaded" which was released the following November. This was the final of the band's album to feature original members Lou Reed, Sterling Morrison, and Mo Tucker. Perhaps the band's most straightforward album, it included beloved singles such as "Who Loves The Sun" and "Sweet Jane".

Condition Details: Two vertical creases, corner bumps, tiny tears where creases from being folded are.
