Attention Grateful Dead fans! This original pre-concert printing South Oregon College Handbill was produced in 1968 and an entire page in the Art of Rock book is devoted to this series of spectacular posters and handbills on page 287.
In late January and early February of 1968, The Grateful Dead and Quicksilver Messenger Service set out on a tour of the Pacific Northwest. The Tour was dubbed the Quick and the Dead and six different posters showing the six different venues were issued. The posters & handbills designed by George Hunter of The Charlatans featured a unique distressed Wild West motif that is very popular with collectors.
The Art of Rock book notes that the creators of these handbills decided to take the distressed design of these ultra-popular items one step further. A blowtorch was often used on many of them to create ragged burned edges as well.
PLEASE NOTE: This handbill has received certification from CGC but is ungraded. The bottom portion containing venue information has been trimmed, and a ticket is stapled to the top left corner.
