We’ve always loved this eerie and colorful poster created by Mouse Studios in 1967 to promote the Grateful Dead's debut album on Warner Brothers Records.
The negative image and vibrating colors make it stand out among Grateful Dead art from the late ’60s. While surviving examples are as scarce as many early San Francisco Dead concert posters, this print still trades at an affordable price. There are two versions of the poster: an unfolded version printed on thick paper and a factory-folded version printed on thinner stock, which was sent to radio stations and record stores to promote the album's sale.
The album itself is integral to the Dead’s early years, when the band was still evolving into the psychedelic heavyweights of ’68 and ’69. It is generally understood that promotional posters typically don't sell for as much as concert posters. However, considering its striking imagery and historical context, this poster is a true hidden gem.
Condition Details: Creases from being folded into 1/4ths, corner bumps, handling.
