This handbill promoted just the 9th concert where Garcia Pigpen and Company took the stage as the Grateful Dead. Graham was fuming at the band for changing their name to the unknown Grateful Dead so soon before the concert. The handbill explains this is the very same band that was "formerly known as the Warlocks". Most importantly it is the very FIRST time the words "Grateful Dead" appears in print to promote a Bill Graham event. In addition to being a "FIRST" of immeasurable importance, this must be considered one of the most important and desirable Bill Graham collectibles in existence. Bill Graham is THE SINGLE MOST INFLUENTIAL person in spreading the 1960s San Francisco scene and music around the world. Graham's influence was so important that a major museum retrospective of his life and career traveled throughout the United States and was viewed by many hundreds of thousands possibly millions of viewers during its tour of America. We have only sold ONE other example of this item in 15+ years!
