This high-grade Original Postcard is part of a group of recently unearthed original Grande Ballroom material acquired decades ago by a collector intimately connected to the late 1960s Detroit music scene. We now have the pleasure of offering these rare, difficult to find relics to the collecting community in this auction!
We are pleased to offer for the first time in our auction this 1967 pre-concert first printing Postcard by Gary Grimshaw, produced for a run of shows featuring the Paupers, the MC5 and more at the Grande. The Paupers were a short lived Canadian psychedelic rock band and had a big influence on Rush in their early years. This popular design is one of the most sought after in the Grande Series. The vibrating photographic image and Grimshaw psychedelic lettering make this piece a sure winner.
All cards from the Grande Ballroom are highly sought after and very collectible. These were printed in small runs and the Grande Ballroom was the epicenter of the 60’s scene in the upper Midwest. The artistic quality of the artworks rivals anything done out west. The material is obscenely difficult to find in undamaged condition, plus the history of the Grande is as interesting as any of the San Francisco dance halls.
