Presenting the FIRST EXAMPLE of this high-grade CGC 9.8 quality Grande Ballroom Postcard to ever appear in our auction! This lot is part of a group of recently unearthed original Grande Ballroom material acquired decades ago by a collector intimately connected to the late 1960s Detroit music scene. We now have the pleasure of offering these rare, difficult to find relics to the collecting community!
This is an Original Grande Ballroom Postcard designed by the late great Detroit artist Gary Grimshaw. The artist also used an image from a 16th Century painting by Italian Mannerist artist and printmaker, Parmigianino. This edition advertises The MC5, Pack and Gold performing at the venue in October 1967 along with Gang, Our Mother's Children and Billy & The Sunshine over a two night run. There was also a poster created for this event, however in many cases, promoter Russ Gibb chose to produce only postcards to promote events at the Grande. We have never auctioned another example of this rare Postcard before - who knows when or if we will see another one, especially in this top condition!
