This lot is part of a group of recently unearthed original Grande Ballroom material acquired decades ago by a collector intimately connected to the late 1960s Detroit music scene. We now have the pleasure of offering these rare, difficult to find relics to the collecting community in this auction!
This Apostles Postcard from the Grande Ballroom is an all time collector’s favorite. Artist Gary Grimshaw created the "Black to Comm" design with a photo by Leni Sinclair for this run of shows in September 1967. It's one of the most often published images from the Grande series, showing up frequently in documents of the era. Grande Ballroom cards and card sets have become one of the most highly sought after items by serious collectors. There was also a poster created for this event, however in many cases promoter Russ Gibb chose to produce only postcards to promote events at the Grande. In 2018 we auctioned a poster of this issue for $2,300.00. It's been 4 years since we've seen another example of the card. In 2020 we auctioned another postcard of this issue for $330.00.
