Presenting ONE OF THE MOST RARE, difficult to find Original First Printing Postcards of the entire Grande series! This lot is part of a group of recently unearthed original Grande Ballroom material acquired decades ago by a collector intimately connected to the late 1960s Detroit music scene. We now have the pleasure of offering this rare, difficult to find relic to the collecting community in this auction!
We are pleased to offer for the first time this Grande Ballroom Postcard designed by Carl Lundgren, known in Detroit trading circles as "The Gold Card". This edition advertises the MC5, along with Gold, John Sinclair and Jim Semark appearing at the venue in October 1967. The great MC5 started its music career in Michigan and developed a reputation for energetic and polemical live performances. They were a mainstay at the Grande in Detroit and became the 'house band' for the venue. The Grande Ballroom series produced some of the finest imagery from the 1960s music scene. In many cases, promoter Russ Gibb chose to produce only postcards to promote events at the Grande.
Grande cards and card sets have become one of the most highly sought after items by serious collectors. We have NEVER auctioned another example of this rare Postcard until now! In fact, this is the FIRST KNOWN CGC-CERTIFIED EXAMPLE of this to EVER appear in a public auction! This is a golden opportunity to acquire one of the most scarce relics from Detroit music history, a chance that may not come again for a very long time.
