Austin artist Rick Turner produced this pre-concert original poster for Devo's August 1979 appearance at the Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin, Texas. This was early in the band's career, and they had only released two albums. Their second studio album "Duty Now for the Future" had been released two months before this engagement. Some footage from this show is available on YouTube for those interested! This magnificent poster is also featured in The Art of Modern Rock book.
Rick Turner was part of the early Austin poster artist group scene along with Kerry Awn, Guy Juke, Micael Priest, and others, revolving around several Texas venues during the 1970s. The Armadillo World Headquarters opened in Austin just after the closing of the Vulcan Gas Company. It went on to become the premiere venue in that musically rich city from 1970-1980. This legendary club offered an incredibly eclectic range of performers in its 10-year tenure.
