Wow, a rare CGC TOP CONDITION Graded 10 Postcard! Any examples that meet the super strict CGC grading standards of 9.9 or higher are a TINY fraction of surviving, top quality condition items. This is the first example of this extremely difficult to find, original Postcard to ever appear in our auction! Seven years ago we auctioned the poster for $9,212.00 but we've never offered the Postcard until now. This one is extremely special due to the PERFECT 10 CGC grade!
This lot is part of a group of recently unearthed original Grande Ballroom material acquired decades ago by a collector intimately connected to the late 1960s Detroit music scene. We now have the pleasure of offering these rare, difficult to find relics to the collecting community in this auction!
Collectors around the world affectionately refer to this World Class Rarity as The Creamsicle. A giant image of the design is featured in The Art of Rock, plate #3.132. It was issued to promote the first appearance of Eric Clapton's band, Cream, at Detroit's famed Grande Ballroom in October of 1967. Cream was by far one of the most dynamic and influencial power trios of the era. Having formed in 1966, the band met with critical acclaim. However, after a couple of years of heavy touring, the band was strained by internal conflict between Baker and Bruce. They would close down shop by the end of 1968.
The experienced collectors we talk to are 100% convinced that items miraculously earning a 10.0 grade from CGC are exceedingly undervalued at current market levels. Their reasoning is simple but firmly grounded in reality. In every other certified collectibles marketplace it’s COMMONPLACE for the absolute “Best of the Best” to command premiums of 10x 20x or even 50x the next grade down. These types of premiums are universal and longstanding in regards to the values of rare coins, comic books, baseball cards and postage stamps. Because independent authentication and grading of concert material is still in its early days, premiums have not yet approached these types of levels.
